Because of your shoes, movement may be awkward. They come in many sizes and forms and are notoriously dirty (pun intended). But your footwear cannot make the trip on its own, so you must bring them when you move.
Moving requires planning and ingenuity, and packing shoes is no different from packing any other part of your wardrobe. By taking the uncertainty out of packing shoes, you'll save time that you can put toward getting rid of other clutter. Here are some best ways to pack shoes for long distance move or locally.
Remove the Shoes You Don't Wear
You undoubtedly have many pairs of shoes in your closet that you haven't worn in years. Given this, there seems to be little reason to bother putting them in packaging. To save yourself the hassle of packing shoes that will eventually end up in the trash, use your relocation as an excuse to eliminate the pairs you won't use.
Donating lightly used shoes is easy; bring them to your local Goodwill or
another charity that might be interested, or use Soles 4 Souls' charity
locator. As an added precaution, if their condition is less than ideal, they
should be recycled correctly instead of thrown away.
Placing a Pair of Socks into Each Shoe
You may prevent your socks from flattening out when you walk by rolling them up and tucking them into the toe of your shoes. Depending on the shape and layout of the shoe, an extra pair of socks at the heel may be necessary.
In addition to protecting
your footwear from wear and tear, this method can also pack your socks. New
packing paper or plastic wrap can also be used to stuff your shoes.
Individually Box Up the Nicer Pairs
You probably aren't too concerned about your worn-out shoes becoming damaged, but your expensive heels and shiny loafers are different. Wrap your prized possessions in crumpled packing paper and store them in separate boxes.
Not saving the shoe boxes is
not a big deal. Moving Boxes
made specifically for holding shoes can be found in multipacks of cardboard, or
smaller plastic containers can be used instead.
Lace Up Some Sneakers and Bind Them
Sneakers and shoes
that will likely be thrown away after being worn should be tied together at the
laces. This way, you can quickly locate the shoes you need without digging
through the boxes you still need to unpack.
Keep Out-Of-Season Shoes Separate
When so many other tasks require doing, it's not worth wasting time unpacking shoes. If you're moving in the summer, have winter boots and cosy slippers.
If you're planning
on moving in the winter, consider setting aside a box just for your flip-flops
and sandals. Make careful to label the container clearly.
Use Tea Bags to Freshen Shoes
You can eliminate lingering odours by letting shoes air out for a full day before putting them away. If your shoes have a very offensive stench, you can try freezing them to kill any germs hiding there.
Stuff some used tea bags to keep your shoes
smelling nice while moving. Just slip them in between the socks you're using to
stuff them.
Organize Heavy Shoes at the Bottom
Always start with the heaviest pairs at the bottom when transporting shoes in a box, plastic bin, or laundry basket.
Stacking heavy shoes on top of lighter shoes increases the
risk of damage to the more delicate pairs. As a result, it will be more
manageable and safer to carry.
